I Implemented Step One
About a week ago I wrote a post about my multi-pronged strategy to make money on the Internet. My initial focus was going to be on my holistic pet food business. I make virtually 100% of my pet food sales via Internet advertising. I am renting my product web site, along with many other people who rent the same basic site with only our affiliate number being different.
Because I rent it, I have no control over the landing page content (the landing page is where you go to when you click an Internet address link). I use Google AdWords to advertise my site. With Google AdWords, when someone does a search on some keyword(s), relevant ads related to that search are listed along with the search results. However, because many people rent the same pet food product site, as many as half the ads listed on a pet food search result page may point to the same basic web site.
Because of Google’s “secret formula” for computing search word costs and the “goodness” of an ad landing page, AdWords can be very expensive the the results disappointing if you cannot control the content of the ad’s landing page.
In order to overcome this deficiency, I took a course on how to develop my own web pages using a software package called Dreamweaver . I had already registered my domain name (http://www.wholesomepetsupply.com/), which pointed to my rented web site. I recently setup an account with with 1&1, the world’s largest web hosting company (and the best, in my opinion - see my previous post about hosting your own web site).
This weekend I finally setup my first landing page. It’s not perfect, but at least I now have a page where I control the content and I can make it very Google- and user-friendly. I’ve added a pet health news blog and will add other features as I experiment and see what works and, maybe more importantly, what doesn’t work.
Please follow my journey on these pages to see if all this effort was worthwhile. And, please, visit my holistic pet food web site at http://www.wholesomepetsupply.com/. Thank you!
